Stop DNA Neglect - Stop Crime in Progress

Flora Kan Featured as a Distinguished Minority Woman

Data Unlimited International, Inc., Maryland, USA - March 4, 2005 - The Minority Business & Professionals Network (MBPN) featured Flora Kan, President of Data Unlimited International, Inc., as one of the Distinguished Minority Women Entrepreneurs in the January/February 2005 edition of Minority Enterprise Advocate Magazine (MEA), a publication of MBPN.

Data Unlimited International, Inc. (DUII) launched its first Starfruit product in 1999 to assist laboratories conducting basic research in the biosciences. With the expanded use of DNA to investigate crimes over the past decade and a half, Starfruit products have been developed to assist in this area. Forensic DNA laboratories are faced with an enormous backlog of casework and convicted offender samples. Thus, DUII has developed Starfruit products to provide for the sophisticated capture, tracking and management of electronic data for not only forensic DNA analysis, but also parentage testing, sib-ship analysis, crime scene investigation, and human identification. The goal of Starfruit products is to reduce the time that scientists must spend recording information and managing data so that more cases and samples can be analyzed, and more crimes can be solved. When crimes are solved sooner, criminals are removed from the streets faster and future crimes are prevented. DUII is proud to be a part of these efforts.

"Your [Flora Kan] perseverance in the forensics area and your attention to the needs of that community continues to be impressive," said Founder of Forensic DNA Consultants, Dr. Mitchell M. Holland who’s firm was recently established to assist crime laboratories, investigators, attorneys, and governmental agencies with the use of DNA testing to fight crime. His firm will provide case and data review support, technical leader support, educational seminars, process flow analysis, and many other services.

Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) is a long biomolecule, found in the cellular nuclei of living organisms.Forensic scientists compare DNA profiles from two sources, such as evidence from a crime scene and samples taken from a suspect or victim, to assess the relationship between two sources. When the DNA profiles are determined to be a complete match (for example between a bloodstain at a crime scene and a sample from a suspect), they can be considered to have originated from the same source.
