Starfruit GeneTell^® LIMS Version 1.3.1.3 Formats Controls in the Report

Data Unlimited International, Inc., Maryland, USA - June 4, 2004 - Clinical Genetics Diagnostics shows strong growth: the results of a newly completed survey of 107 US molecular diagnostic labs – 71 in hospitals, 15 privately-held, and 21 in the public health service sector – indicate continued strong growth in the use of molecular diagnostic testing, according to Clinical Laboratory News (Jan 2004, Vol. 30, No. 1).  The College of American Pathologists (CAP) reports there are more than 10,000 clinical labs in the U.S.  Starfruit GeneTell^® LIMS is the software and database product aimed at the clinical genetics diagnostic laboratories.  Starfruit GeneTell^® LIMS enables a clinical laboratory to conform to CAP, Clinical Laboratory Improvements Amendment (CLIA), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA).

Starfruit GeneTell^® LIMS allows labs to manage databases of clinics, hospitals, physicians, samples, tests, inventory, equipment, vendors and reports; track samples from receiving to check-in and -out from storage vault; and order tests and document clinical indications.  Starfruit GeneTell^®  uses a configurable database that records test, disease, interpretation standard templates and cost-per-test data. The system also provides an editor that allows modification of suggestive reports; performs billing, inventory control and equipment maintenance; and documents lab analysis by monitoring extraction, restriction enzyme digestion, Southern blotting or PCR amplification, and analysis.  A barcode tracks samples, and a smart card signs electronically.

In addition to routine software perfective maintenance, the new release delivers the following enhancements:

1. ‘Detail of Lab’ information is configurable.
2. Controls specified for ‘Report Details’ have ability to grow/shrink according to the text composed by Starfruit in the corresponding reports.
3. Standard reports contain detailed information regarding patient and sample.
4. Information about ‘Signing Authority’ is configurable.
5. Barcode label sizes and number of barcode labels to print per sample are configurable.
