Funding Available for States to Solve No Suspect Crimes

Deadline: September 13, 2002

"No Suspect Casework DNA Backlog Reduction Program (FY2003)" (39 pp.) (SL 000570) presents a funding opportunity that is available from NIJ for State plans that identify, process, and analyze no suspect cases, either by their own public laboratories or by qualified fee-for-service vendors. Proposals should describe plans that identify and test no suspect cases and effectively use DNA databases to solve no suspect crimes, where DNA evidence is available. Funding Available to Improve Crime Laboratories for Criminal Justice Purposes

Deadline: September 30, 2002

"Paul Coverdell National Forensic Sciences Improvement Act Grants" are soliciting applications from State administering agency directors for funding available to improve crime laboratories and medical examiners' offices. Award amounts to the States are predetermined by a formula based on population. Additional discretionary funding is available to some States based on crime rates. Applications must certify the existence of a consolidated plan for forensic science labs operated by the State and specify how grant funds will be used to improve the labs. BJA Program Combats Illegal Prescription Drug Use

"Prescription Drug Monitoring Program" (8 pp.) (SL 000569) presents an opportunity for State governments to create or enhance programs that increase the State's capacity to analyze and respond to the illegal use of prescription drugs. Bulletproof Vest Partnership Grant Program.
